Beauty Reviews #2: Face Products

As a lover of all things makeup, I enjoy hearing others honest opinions about products, so today I am sharing some of my own. Today we will be starting with face products!

The rating system we will be using is Yay!, Nay, and Meh. Yay of course is the best, Nay is the worst and meh is indifferent

One more thing, my skin is generally very dry, so I do tend to lean towards products that are very moisturizing. So if you do have more oily or combination skin, this is something to keep in mind as well

Primers and BB Creams:

  • Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream (shade Light) Meh.

Unfortunately this one did not have me very impressed. Good news, this product has SPF 30 and it is moisturizing. Bad news, it doesn’t do much else. I did notice it blurred my freckles slightly, but other than that it does not “perfect” or “prime” very much.

  • NYX Honey Dew Me Up primer Yay!

I have been using this product for about a week and so far I really like it. It is a bit pricy, for a drugstore primer, but it does do a good job of priming the skin and making my face slightly tacky before foundation. The longevity and look of my makeup has improved a little bit. This product also has honey, which is supposed to help with clearing skin.

  • Holika Holika Petit BB cream (clearing) Yay!

Just when my faith in BB creams dwindled, I came across this one online and I am rather pleased with it! Unlike the other two I’ve tried, this one actually provides decent coverage. It is also pretty light and moisturizing. Bonus, it also provides SPF 30

  • NYC 5 in 1 BB Cream Nay.

This product moisturizes… but does not meet any of its other claims. Good moisturizer but skin perfecting? Not so much

  • L’Oréal True Match Original Liquid Foundation(shade Soft Ivory) Yay!

This one was my first liquid foundation and is definitely a favorite of mine. I do think for my dry skin that perhaps the Lumi version  would be less drying, but so far I have only tried the original. I also appreciate the amount of shades there are to choose from; I have a hard time finding face makeup that is pale enough to match me, but this foundation had several options with different undertones, so it matches me quite well

  • L’Oréal True Match Natural Mineral Foundation (shade Soft Ivory) Yay!

If you are looking for a loose powder foundation, this one is very good. It provides nice coverage and good longevity.

  • Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation (shade Porcelain Ivory) Yay!

Good coverage, nice finish, very pleased with this product. I was looking for a foundation that was more moisturizing and this fit the bill. The only negatives I have are 1) it does not dry matte and 2) I wish there were more shades to choose from.

  • Cover Girl Ultimate Finish Liquid Powder Compact (shade Classic Ivory) Yay!

Are you a lazy girl looking for an easy peasy foundation? May I introduce you to this compact here. Coverage is good and it is very easy to apply. You apply it with a sponge as a cream, but it has a powder finish. My only complaint is that the powder finish can look a little bit cakey. It is a very easy to use product though, travel friendly, and multitasks pretty well.

  • Femme Couture Get Flawless 8 in 1 foundation Yay!

I really like the coverage and finish of this product. I do wish it spread a bit easier so I would have to use as much product each time, but other than that it works pretty well for me.

  • Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation (shade Light Porcelain) Yay!

I am pleased to say this product worked for me as expected. Coverage and finish is good. One thing I like is that although it is moisturizing, it sets matte.

Setting products:

  • ELF Makeup Mist and Set Nay.

This is one of those products where it can be difficult to measure how well it works, but to me it feels more like a spray of water. It does set makeup very well.

  • Femme Couture Get Locked Makeup Setting Spray Meh.

This one seems to do more than the ELF setting spray, although I am not super impressed with the longevity of my makeup using this product. Nice to have, but could definitely do without.

  • L’Oréal True Match Super-Blendable Crayon Concealer (shade Fair/Light Neutral) Meh.

The coverage of this product is ok, but one thing that gave me some trouble was blending it in. If you do purchase this product, I would recommend putting it on after a moisturizer or foundation to blend it in better. Again coverage is sufficient but blending it can be time consuming.

  • NYX Incredible Waterproof Concealer (shade Yellow) Meh.

This one is ok, like the crayon concealer I had some difficulty blending it in. The coverage also was not sufficient to mask dark circles under my eyes.

  • Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer (shade Radiant) Yay!

Out of the three it is my favorite concealer. Very easy to blend, good coverage, and yes it does highlight. The product has a little bit of luminosity, which gives off a faint/natural highlight.
